    1. review You are, as this book tries to make clear, your memories That is, your personal identity is so intricately based on the sum total of your memories that it makes it impossible to have any idea of what a self may mean without resorting to understand how memory works Since we take the memories we have to be the basis of our identity, it can be very hard to imagine that this memory has some serious limitations and ways that it can deceive us A scientific study of memory is about a century and [...]

    2. Everything we think, do, or say relies upon or is influenced by memory, and yet our memories offer a much lower fidelity and highly corruptible recording than we tend to think Even those events that lead to flashbulb memory i.e JFK s assassination, 9 11 terror attacks, or the 3 11 tsunami in Japan aren t remembered particularly well You may remember where you were and what you were doing in broad brushstrokes, but you probably wouldn t test well on the actual details of the event Old memories a [...]

    4. I didn t find this book as well written as the others from the VSI series I have never read any works specifically related to memory, but I found that I had read about the majority of studies discussed in other books I have encountered, so I didn t find out that much new information. At the same time, I can see that it does introduce many memory concepts fairly clearly, however the approach is always psychological, and I had hoped for some of the work from neuroscience For instance, in the VSI bo [...]

    6. A fair introduction to the historic and most recent developments on the study of memory from the point of view of Psychology but with a completedisregard for the rest of fields studying the brain and its processes. All the theories discussed are very high level and with a very shallow discussion on which parts of the brain and biological mechanisms drive them A discussion of some of the studies in neuroscience and neurobiology that back or refute the high level theories presented would have been [...]

    7. As with the other Very Short Introductions this is a concise, short book about the subject Firstly there is encoding, storage and retrieval a failure of any of these process through disease or damage can effect memory of course , but you can also just forget things, or just not pay enough attention at the encoding end Oops sorryThen there is Short term different from Working and Long Term memorySemantic and Episodic,Ways to create false memoriesWays to improve MemoryI found it a little disjointe [...]

    8. This is a great wee read a reasonable and understandable explanation of the complexity of memory finishing with three practical chapters on memory impairment, ageing memory and improving memory The take home message is that nothing is simple a clinical assessment of memory is an assessment of a pathway and what is observed is the final common pathway, and though what part of the pathway may be alluded to by the task, the clinician s repertoire is too crude for meaningful conclusions about memory [...]

    9. This is my second VSI book and it was completely fine The book explains every idea discussed in simple plain easy to understand language The book was filled by mentions and references to other research papers and books.I think he could ve added the neural bases of the memory but for 130 pages, this is fine. The last chapter about improving your memory was perhaps the most important one and I even think that the whole book was centred around this chapter.
