    1. I have heard C.J Box referred to as a writer s writer, as he is award winning, critically acclaimed, and admired by other authors It s so easy to see why as his prose is sharp and evocative and his stories never slow Box is a resident of Wyoming and most of his books are set there but at times he wanders into Montana and North Dakota as he does in this fourth Cassie Dewell book. This is the third book in the saga of the murderous Lizard King, but Box catches up the new reader to the series quite [...]

    2. The conclusion it would seem to what is being called The Highway Quartet Yes, quartet would indicate 4 books, but you never know I wouldn t be surprised to see Cassie Dewell back for another adventure.I can t help but give this one 5 stars I always enjoy Box s novels They are suspenseful The bad guys are usually super creepy and do spine chilling and terrifyingly twisted stuff Also, I never get tired of the fact that his heroes get no respect until they save the day Each satisfying conclusion wh [...]

    3. Thanks to the publisher and net galley for providing me with a free review copy of the book.Wow I am a huge fan of C.J Box s Joe Pickett series, and when I initially requested this book, I did it on his name alone, thinking it was a new Pickett I was a little disappointed when I realized that it s actually the first book in a new series Or at least, I thought it was the first book in a new series Now that I ve looked at it on GR, I realize that is actually the third book in a series, which means [...]

    4. Let me say this I love C.J Box I love Joe Pickett, I loved Cody Hoyt and I love Cassie Dewell. That said, I think Box is kind of out of his element in this series It s evidenced by the fact that the first book was originally labeled Cody Hoyt 1, then the second was Cody Hoyt 2 Cassie Dewell 1, the third was Cassie Dewell 2, even though it was the third in a series and now this is the 4th of the Highway quartet And this book, while I did enjoy it, suffers from the same issue the second book did Bo [...]

    5. Wow What a great story The writing, characters and suspense are first rate. The last book where the Lizard King figured prominently in a Cassie Dewell story was The Highway He s back once again in Paradise Valley Cassie has been trying to track him down for quite awile but he manages to elude law enforncement Until now The Lizard King finally signs up to pick up a load in Grimstad, North Dakota where the County Sheriff s men and Cassie are waiting for him In the meantime, Kyle and his pal Raheem [...]

    6. First Sentence The trap is set and he s on his way, Cassie Dewell said to Sheriff Jon Kirkbride.Inspector Cassie Dewell has been hunting the Lizard King, a serial killer of truck stop prostitutes, runaways, and of her former boss Now, she hopes she has set up the perfect lure to get him to come to her Yet she is also concerned about the disappearance of Kyle Westergaard, a young man with mild fetal alcohol syndrome, and his friend Raheem.Box does a very good job of explaining eh details of thing [...]

    7. Former Chief Investigator for the Grimstad, ND Sheriff s Office, Cassie Dewell heads back to Montana in a private search for a 12 year old Grimstad boy she thinks might have been kidnapped by the infamous Lizard King This heinous villain has for years kept one step ahead of law enforcement primarily because, as an independent long haul trucker, his 18 wheels are always moving faster than the wheels of justice He s also a diabolically smart and vicious serial killer of prostitutes he kidnaps at t [...]

    8. Edgar award winner C J Box is at the top of his game in Paradise Valley, the third book in the Cassie Dewell series, and fourth and final book in the Highway Quartet Cassie Dewell has been looking for the serial killer known as the Lizard King for three years He is finally within her sights, when everything goes terribly wrong, costing Cassie her job and leaving her on her own to continue the hunt.Elegantly written, breathtaking and filled with suspense, Paradise Valley is an absolute must read [...]

    9. This book is a fitting end to this series The first book I read by Mr Box was The Highway I absolutely fell hard for the author s writing Since, than, I have read many other books from this author Yet, this is probably my top favorite series The Highway is where I first was introduced to Cassie She was just a rookie back than Yet, she has come a long way since that book Cassie is confident, intelligent, and the bad guys better be scared This book nicely ties up everything in this series to come [...]

    10. North Dakota s Chief Investigator in the Sheriff s Department, Cassie Dewell, has finally set a trap for the Lizard King This serial killer is an independent trucker who has killed multiple truck stop prostitutes and Cassie has been after him for years She has lured him to a fake pick up at a manufacturing facility but the bust goes tragically awry resulting in deaths Cassie resigns in the aftermath to protect the sheriff Adrift, she accepts a job to find two teenage boys who went missing on the [...]

    11. 4.5 stars. In Paradise Valley, C.J Box pits intrepid investigator Cassie Dewell against her longtime nemesis the Lizard King, a long haul truck driver and serial killer who has eluded capture for several years This final installment of the Highway Quartet can be read as a standalone but I HIGHLY recommend the entire series.Cassie s patience has finally paid off and Ron Pergram aka the lizard King has finally taken the bait she has been dangling for the past the several years With the trap set, Ca [...]

    12. C.J Box is one of my must read authors His Joe Pickett series has everything going for it His best friend Nate, an enigma, teaming up with Joe, makes for a thrilling escapade every time. This series starring Cassie Dewell, an Investigator after a serial killer, has a personal reason for hunting him since she is the only one who got away He is a heinous killer and does monstrous acts to the young girls he picks up at truck stops This book may be the conclusion of this series, I wonder if Cassie wi [...]

    13. C.J Box is such a wonderful writer I especially like his Cassie Dewell series This latest book in the series was so riveting that I read it in one day I m eagerly looking forward to the next book.

    14. 6 25 p.m 26 jul 17 just finished this one great story the lizard kingis is highway quartet, 4 so best bet is to read these in order as the lizard king is a recurring nightmare reads fast, has all the bells and whistles, a gratifying endingdidn t see that coming, not in that fashion kindle version, this, good read have never been disappointed with a c.j box story, well worth the time it takes to read one over before you know it time to water the garden.

    15. I used to think that the late Robert Parker had the greatest ability to write a completely believable woman lead character I stand corrected C.J Box has created in Cassie a heroine who is not only believable but so real you can be sure you know her This book was a terrific entry in her adventure I sure hope we see of Cassie.

    16. Paradise Valley by C J Box is an intense story following Cassie Dewell as she continues her search for the deviant long haul trucker she first encountered in The Highway It is not necessary to have read the two previous books in this series to grasp this one This story begins about four years after The Highway, and Cassie is working in another state for another agency She is planning her wedding and setting up the final trap for The Lizard King The book starts with a bang, literally, as the sche [...]

    17. It is hard to critique CJ Box but this was one of those where I m on the fence Part of me wants to give it 3 stars, part 4.5 And funnily enough, it is getting rave reviews. The start was slow but then I read most of the book in one day I do want to go back and read all 5 Cody Cassie novels in a row to see how they read in quick succession.A few criticisms were things most people won t care about or catch spelling errors, the fact that Sept 15, 2017 is NOT a Tuesday, illogical timelines quick trav [...]

    18. This is the first C.J Box book I ve read I think , so obviously I wasn t familiar with the previous Highway Quartet books, but it didn t seem to matter in the least I ll be sure to go back and get caught up on the earlier books in the series.C.J Box what can I say He is obviously a master at weaving a story, making everything clear, leaving no issues unresolved, and grabbing the reader into the quick of the tale so as to not allow the audience to even consider placing the book aside Personally, [...]

    19. Avid readers of C J Box, will appreciate another fix even though the Cassie Dewell series is, for me, not quite up to his other projects This installment does show some bright spots, however For one, I cannot get enough of crusty and stubborn as hell Bull Mitchell and hope to see of him future efforts An old gals network , ala Women s Murder Club, appears to be in the making which has possibilities Resetting back to Montana is a plus Finally, writing out the Lizard King is a BIG PLUS I hated ev [...]

    20. I ve just finished reading Paradise Valley , my man C J Box s latest rural detective thriller in the Cassie Dewell series It s due out in July, so I received an advance reader s copy Well conceived and plotted, pretty good character interactions, a satisfying ending, indeed Can t say much in detail, you know Our heroine, persistent and smart enough, humane and human and one gets the distinct impression that in the end, Cassie s adventures both romantically and professionally, will continue in an [...]

    21. Mr Box is one hell of a writer He brings the land into the story making it part of the plot He allows you to feel the biting cold or the immense distances, shares in the views of the wildlife and on top of that he brings humanity into that scene, both good and bad Two small observations, not quite gripes but sort of an amusing thing to find a very good author when he makes a small error The first is in In Plain Sight where there are three individuals seated in the sheriff s office, all handcuffe [...]

    22. A reader s worst experience is to pick up a book by an author he has relied on to deliver value for the money and learn that he has written a bomb THAT is definitely not the case with C.J.Box and Paradise Valley Once again, the author has written a tightly woven crime drama whose characters, good and bad, come across the pages as real The reader can feel their fear and sense the danger His copy written ownership of using the beautiful, remote and sometimes dangerous high mountain west as a backd [...]

    23. So for the last month when I went into the library there was an audiobook a new one that had just been released sitting on the shelf and I walked by it, finally one time picked it up and read it, it sounded interesting, but I ve never read this author, so I went and found something else and out the door I would went This went on for a month or better So last week I was in there and this book literally screamed pick me up dammit, I m tired of sitting here Anyway I thought why not OH my goodness t [...]

    24. Another great Job by CJ Box As always he does a great job with characters, setting and plot The fourth in this series it is very well done Cassie Dewell is further challenged and perseveres Looking forward to Chuck s next book

    25. Give me a good thriller set in rough, wild terrain and I m content This fits the bill for thriller pleasure with a truly scary and diabolical bad guy, a pursuer with motive, and some crusty backwoods types Also, my favorite, an unusual kid with dreams of adventure, the will to pursue those dreams, and a deep sense of humanity and good.

    26. The final book of the Highway Quartet and the third featuring Cassie Dewell A great pacy narrative, well written in CJB style

    27. After four years of hunting the serial killer The Lizard King, Grimstad PD chief investigator Cassie Dewell has seemingly got him in her sights A sting operation is set up and it looks like he s walking into her trap. But when things take an explosive and devastating turn, Cassie soon finds herself out of a job due to power politics by a county attorney with sights set higher At loose ends and facing her own personal losses, Cassie ends up looking into the disappearance of Kyle Westergaard, the b [...]
