Told from the viewpoint of a young left wing journalist, this novel is about Britain s attitude to Germany during the years leading up to WW2 It could have been a very good novel, but in my view it suffers from two substantial defects First, I think there is too much undigested history and not enough fiction Second, I found the writing style rather flat, and as a result the book never really drew me in.
